If you prefer, you may also apply for food stamps in Maine using a paper application. This physical form can be printed out from the official state portal or picked up from a branch office in person. Regardless of whether you apply online or using this paper form, you must enter the same basic information. This includes:

  • Your name, date of birth and Social Security Number (SSN)
  • The name, date of birth and SSN of each household member
  • Your current address and contact information
  • Employment and/or disability information, if applicable
  • Details regarding your income and resources
  • Information on any other government programs that you benefit from

When listing your income, note that certain types of expenses and bills may be deducted if you meet the requirements. For example, you may be able to deduct a certain amount of medical expenses if you have a disability.

After you apply for food stamps, you will need to provide documents that verify your information. For example, copies of your pay stubs, bank statements and identity documents may be required. Depending on your application method, you may be able to include these documents with your form or provide them at a later date.

On the other hand, be mindful that you are not allowed to use it for unapproved purchases or to withdraw cash from your balance.

You can generally check if a retailer takes food stamps by looking for the appropriate logo by the store’s entrance.

  • Plants and seeds
